What Are the Three Doshas in Ayurveda About?
The three doshas in Ayurveda—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—are the energetic blueprints that shape our mind and body.
According to Ayurveda, the human body is governed by three core energies—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—known as the Doshas. These are the bioenergetic principles of the body, working alongside Dhatus (tissues) and Malas (waste products).
The Doshas are not fixed types, but rather dynamic energies that fluctuate based on diet, emotion, environment, lifestyle, and even the time of day or season.

Every living being is tridoshic—composed of all three Doshas—but one (sometimes two) usually dominates. That dominant dosha shapes your physical body, emotions, metabolism, and more.

In essence, Doshas are energetic forces of nature, that help us better understand ourselves and the world around us. So, it is safe to say that ' everything and everyone is tridoshic '
Like every living or non-living substance on this Earth , the three Doshas in Ayurveda are also comprised by the same micro cosmic elements air, ether, water, fire and earth and are subject to their qualities.
Vata Dosha: The Energy of Movement
Elements: Ether + Air
Qualities: Cold, light, dry, mobile, rough
Governs: Nervous system, circulation, elimination, respiration, creativity, motion
Symptoms of imbalance:Constipation, gas, anxiety, insomnia, dry skin, irregular periods, racing thoughts
Emotionally: Prone to worry, fear, overstimulation
🌀 Vata is the energy of wind. It initiates all movement and governs aging.

Pitta Dosha: The Energy of Transformation
Elements: Fire + Water
Qualities: Hot, sharp, light, oily, intense
Governs: Digestion, metabolism, intellect, body temperature, blood
Symptoms of imbalance:Acid reflux, anger, overheating, skin inflammation, light sensitivity, early graying
Emotionally: Prone to irritation, criticism, burnout
🔥 Pitta is the energy of fire. It digests not just food, but information and experience.

Kapha Dosha: The Energy of Structure and Stability
Elements: Earth + Water
Qualities: Heavy, slow, stable, moist, cool, nurturing
Governs: Lubrication, structure, immunity, stability, growth, endurance
Symptoms of imbalance:Fatigue, depression, weight gain, sinus congestion, water retention
Emotionally: Prone to lethargy, attachment, emotional stagnation
🌱 Kapha is the energy of cohesion. It gives you form, strength, and steadiness.
We all have all three Doshas and all five elements within us. They all govern specific functions of our body. No one is purely one Dosha. We each carry all three, but in different ratios.
Your Prakruti (natural constitution) is what you're born with.Your Vikruti (current imbalance) is what you're living with now.
They are not always the same.
That’s why diet, lifestyle, and even your mind can work for you or against you—depending on how well it supports your doshic balance.
The Ayurvedic Law of Opposites: How to Balance the Doshas
Ayurveda follows one of the most intuitive healing principles in nature:
Like increases like. Opposites create balance throughout the three doshas in Ayurveda
Feeling anxious and dry (Vata)? → Add grounding, oily, warm qualities
Feeling inflamed and sharp (Pitta)? → Add cooling, calming, soft qualities
Feeling heavy and slow (Kapha)? → Add light, active, dry, and warm qualities
Balance is not about erasing a dosha—it’s about keeping it in harmony.
Final Thought: Everyone Is Tridoshic—But Not Everyone Is in Balance
You don’t need to fit into a box. You are the whole cosmic puzzle.
Understanding your doshic balance is a tool for:
Preventing disease
Choosing the right foods and routines
Calming your mind
Deepening your relationship with your body
And ultimately—returning to your unique nature.
Best of me, to you,
E.T.

Good. That means you’re wise.
Buuuut if you’re still tempted to find out whether you’re more airy-fairy Vata, spicy Pitta, or cozy Kapha… I’ve got a little something for you.
👉 Just message me and say “What’s my Dosha?” and I’ll send you my fun 5-minute quiz (with a grain of Himalayan salt, of course).
✨ Bonus tip: Take it twice—
As you are today (aka your Vikruti)
And as you were as a child (aka your Prakruti)
Compare the two and see what shifted. It’s not science, it’s not gospel—it’s just a clue on the path back to you.
